FAQ
Who is suitable for Laser Hair Removal?
At The Look by Louise Laser Clinic, we work with only the safest and most effective lasers.
It goes without saying our technology is designed to treat all skin types and Fitzpatrick scale (colours).
How does it work?
The laser emits light energy, which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. If treated within the right stage of growth, this then causes the hair follicle to overheat and actually damages the bulb, thus preventing regrowth. The process is called ‘photothermolysis.’
Are there any risks or side effects?
The most common side effects of laser hair removal include mild skin irritation, temporary discomforts such as redness and swelling. These will settle within 24 – 48 hours after treatment.
In rare cases, there can be changes in pigment. It can darken or lighten the affected skin, usually temporarily.
Does it hurt?
Our Diode lasers have an iced tip applicator. We also administer treatment using a unique cooling gel to keep discomfort to a minimum. We can if necessary apply a local anaesthetic to the area if needed, however, you will get more of an idea of how the treatment feels during the initial test patch. If you are used to waxing, laser hair removal is often described as much less painful. The more laser sessions you have, the less sensation you feel as there are fewer hair follicles targeted.
When will I start to see results?
Some results will be noticeable from 1 – 2 weeks following your first treatment. Results will become more noticeable after each treatment. The number of treatments required depends on your skin type and colour, but most likely to be between 6 – 8 again depending on area and body part. The time between treatments will vary between 4 – 6 weeks
Is there any downtime?
You may experience some reddening of the skin around where the hair used to be, which could last from a few minutes from 24 to 48 hours. For 48 hours after each treatment, please avoid any exposure to the sun and also refrain from using saunas and steam rooms.
How will I know if I'm suitable?
We will carry out a small, painless patch test, usually 48 hours prior to any treatment.
You will then be closely monitored to check for any signs of a reaction. If there are no signs we can then safely proceed with treatment.
Our Medical Laser Specialists will assist you during a consultation when deciding on your sessions.
Can laser hair removal be used on any skin type?
We take pride in being able to treat any skin type, from male to female, ranging from very fair to very dark. Our lasers can be adjusted to work with any hair and skin combination, provided that there is enough pigment in the hair (i.e. it is dark enough to attract the laser.) Laser hair removal is now safe for olive, brown, and black skin tones.
How many sessions will I need?
You will require several laser sessions to see long-lasting results. Most of our clients purchase a course as it’s the best value for your money. We usually recommend 6-8 appointments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. In some cases, people may require a maintenance session. Please speak with your laser specialist regarding the courses we have available.
Can I shave in between treatments?
You can shave in between treatments but remember that the treated hair will start to fall out of its own accord 1 – 2 weeks after your first treatment. Do not bleach your hair as there’s no pigment in bleached hair for the laser to target.
Can men undertake laser hair removal?
Yes of course! One of the reasons laser hair removal is ideal for men is that it works equally well across the entire body and has long-lasting results. From a few unwanted tufts to an entire back, chest, or stomach, laser hair removal is efficient and effective. One of our most popular male treatments.
Can I have laser hair removal if I’m breastfeeding?
We can treat you with laser hair removal whilst breastfeeding, the only area we wouldn’t advise to treat is around the nipple area, however, all other body areas are treatable.
Can I have laser hair removal if I’m pregnant?
We cannot treat you for laser hair removal if you are pregnant.
How much is Laser Hair Removal?
Treatment is priced for individual sessions, however, most people purchase our Laser courses as 6-8 sessions are required to achieve long-lasting hair-free skin.
Please note Laser Hair Removal is only available at our Skin Health clinic located in Bolton.

How is laser hair removal different from other forms of hair removal?
Our laser hair removal requires a short-term commitment to achieve long-term results. Results are not instantaneous but once your treatments have been completed, you won’t have to think about hair removal ever again.
Why should I choose laser over waxing?
Not to mention the pain!
