FAQ
What is Dermapen®?
Dermapen is a skin needling device and the number one brand here in the UK and across America and Australia.
How does it work?
By creating tiny microscopic holes into the skin’s surface using 13 fine needles, which lightly vibrate at different depths on the skin’s surface. This action alone triggers a healing response to help scars, marks, and blemishes. It also creates channels to administer active ingredients for other concerns such as acne and pigmentation.
How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the concern, results can be seen in the first few days, but for best results our Skin Specialists usually recommend 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
When will I start to see results?
As long as a client receives Dermapen® within 4-6 weeks of the previous session, results will just continue to impress due to collagen stimulation being at its highest point. There is a small process during the first week which will be explained on consultation. Skin can be red and look almost sunburnt after treatment but this will soon fade 24 hours after the procedure. Your skin will regulate by day 7 and from that point onwards and up to 28 days later you will start to see small changes in your skin. Results are best 1 month after the initial/previous session.
We highly recommend combining a Dermalux® LED Luminosity facial session prior to treatment to increase and accelerate collagen production. The BlueWave protocol is a must for any acne sufferers to help kill any bacteria on the surface of the skin, prior to needling. Maintenance sessions in between will only add to your results.
How long will it take?
Due to our practitioners being trained in advanced needling, we can treat a full face in around 8-10 minutes, keeping pain to an absolute minimum. The majority of the appointment is taken up by the active ingredient penetration and added Crystal Fibre support mask leaving the client more than able to leave the clinic not feeling at all self-conscious.
Will it hurt?
Micro needling can sometimes be slightly uncomfortable but when comparing to “Derma Roller’ it can only be described as a “breeze”. Due to the advanced technology of the pen, the needle depth can be changed throughout the whole procedure to suit client concerns, required results, and pain threshold. We have in the past offered topical anaesthetic for this treatment but refrained when we learned from Andrew Christie the Global Director of Dermapen® and founder of Microneedling, this can have a huge effect on the end results, so unlike most other clinics, advise clients against topical anaesthetic for this particular procedure.
What should I avoid before treatment?
Take caution to avoid any facial filler treatments and Anti-Ageing Injections 14 days prior to Dermapen®. Fillers and Toxin can be administered straight after treatment with no contraindications.
Also, discontinue the use of any Retinol and AHA products 7 days prior. Please be sure to arrive with clean, make up free skin.
What skin products should I use with Dermapen®?
Our clinic prefers to educate our clientele by using pharmaceutical brands to cosmetics, especially alongside side your Dermapen® Microneedling sessions as these are classed as medical-grade treatments. Your practitioner will prescribe you a Mesoestetic® homecare plan for pre and post-procedure use, which can be purchased in-house.
Is there any downtime?
Yes. Immediately post-procedure you can be red and slightly warm. This can last around 12-24 hours. In rare cases, possible swelling or very light bruising in some places.
Can I wear make up after the treatment?
There is no make-up to be worn for 24 hours after Dermapen®, however, we can provide you with a medical foundation to wear the day after should you need to.
The skin should be cared for using the correct pharmaceutical homecare, which includes Hyaluronic Acid and Mesoestetic’s post-procedure Fast Skin Repair. This can be purchased in-clinic.
