FAQ
How are fillers dissolved?
A few small injections of a specific medical enzyme called Hyaluronidase are injected into the treated area. The enzyme immediately starts to break down the filler but the swelling is usually present for up to 24 hours, or slightly longer in some cases, but should tend to settle soon after the procedure.
Who is this treatment suitable for?
Anyone who has previously had Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers injected. We cannot dissolve semi or permanent fillers, these will need to be removed surgically. Dissolving is unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Yes, this is a strong enzyme that should only be used in small quantities and is not recommended for anyone who is allergic to animal-based products, hence the reason for removal over several sessions in some more extreme cases. Common side effects are redness, bruising and swelling
More serious concerns are immediate swelling that is excessive, rashes, apparent itching, or a wheel around the injection area.
However rare but still a risk of the product used is anaphylaxis, so it is imperative that you are completely honest with your medical history.
Please note due to the single-use sterile vial, if you showing signs of an allergic reaction after a small dosage of enzyme following the patch test, full payment is still necessary and is always taken prior to the procedure, as we then have to dispose of the Hylaronidase as it cannot be used on anyone else.
When will I see results?
Results will begin to show within 2-3 days after the swelling has settled. The full result will be achieved 2 weeks after treatment as the enzyme can still continue to work for up to 14 days. Results then tend to last 2-3 months. Any reviews that are necessary will need to be appointed within the first 2 weeks after treatment. Please plan ahead for this treatment as we cannot refill until AFTER 6 WEEKS.
To get maximum results from your treatment please adhere to the following advice;
For the next 48 hours refrain from any alcohol, strenuous exercise, make-up application, and UVA tanning beds. Please remember, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, strenuous exercise, and sun exposure can affect and help to reduce the lifespan of your treatment.
How long after removing my previous filler do I have to wait before I can receive a refill?
We require a minimum of 6 weeks between removal of previous filler by dissolve and refill with our injectors.
Will it hurt?
As well as using an extremely fine needle, we mix the enzyme with liquid anaesthesia (numbing). A topical anaesthetic can also be applied if a client has a low pain threshold but this isn’t usually necessary.
Is there any aftercare?
Do not touch, massage, rub or press the treated area as this can initiate excessive swelling post-procedure. The area must be kept clean and sterile at all times to avoid any chance of infection and no makeup for 24 hours should be applied to the area. Try to avoid extreme heat/cold. Following this, vigorous exercise, sun exposure, sunbeds, or saunas should be avoided for at least 48 hours after treatment.
Bruising is common with this procedure and completely normal, we advise taking oral arnica or apply topically. This is a herbal supplement to aid with healing.
How will I know I'm not allergic?
We will carry out a small, painless patch test, usually on the forearm 15-30 mins prior to the procedure.
You will then be closely monitored to check for any signs of allergies. If there are no signs of allergy we can then safely proceed with treatment.
Please note due to the single-use sterile vial, if you are allergic after a small dosage of enzyme following the patch test, full payment is necessary and will be taken prior to the procedure.
Will my lips look deflated if they were previously overfilled elsewhere?
This is a common worry for most people considering a lip dissolve, but your tissue will adapt to its current circumstances. We recommend collagen supplementation prior and post when dissolving to up your natural supply. If we are refilling the area, then the hyaluronic acid within the newly injected fillers will work to restore and protect your natural tissue.
What can I do to maximise my results post-refill?
To achieve the best possible result we recommend taking our specific Collagen supplement to aid elasticity, strength, and hydration in your treated area. The more abundant the collagen, the healthier and stronger your skin and tissue will be, achieving a flawless result. The longer you are able to take these supplements, the better the results will be!
These can be purchased in the clinic at our Skin Health Flagship in Bolton or can be sent out to you. Please email: enquiries@thelookbylouise.co.uk
How many sessions will I need?
Generally, lip fillers tend to dissolve in one session. Some of the more complex cases such as migration, lumps, and filler that has travelled into the mucosa, can take more than one session, if not several.
Each and every session is chargeable.
If you are choosing the Russian Lip Technique, we will most likely ask you to remove all of your previous lip filler. This isn’t an option as there is a chance the technique will not take effect without doing so.
How much is this treatment?
Dissolving filler regardless of the area is £150 per session in Bolton, Greater Manchester and £175 in Marylebone, Central London.
