FAQ
What is Lumecca® ?
Lumecca® is the most powerful and effective Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL) to remove visible veins and capillaries, pigmentation, sun damage, vascular lesions, rosacea, redness, acne scarring and melasma. This popular anti-ageing treatment is a quick and comfortable light photo facial treatment with visible results after the first session to restore a clear complexion and rejuvenated skin tone.
Lumecca® can be used on any part of the body with excellent results. This treatment has a high specificity and selectivity for pigmentation created by sun damage and also redness caused by rosacea, making it one of the most powerful lasers for its purpose.
What is IPL? (Intense Pulsed Light)
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a procedure where a high-intensity pulse of light is used to treat areas of the skin where there is sun damage, age spots, dark spots, rosacea, redness, acne scars, or fine lines and wrinkles. IPL is also commonly referred to as IPL photofacial, photorejuvenation, or broadband light.
What areas of the skin can be treated?
You can use IPL on the face, neck, chest and hands to treat pigmentation, sun damage acne scarring and wrinkles, redness including Rosacea, capillaries, and veins. IPL is most commonly performed on the face, neck, chest and hands since those are usually the body parts that are exposed to the sun most often.

How soon will I see results?
After your first treatment, you will immediately notice cleaner, clearer, brighter, and smoother skin.
Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of the pigmented spots. During the following week the pigmented skin will flake off, (with minimal downtime), leading to an overall more even and uniform complexion.
When treating vascular areas, you may see the capillaries blanch ( disappear) or change in colour which will dissipate after several days.
Regular, frequent treatments lead to optimal results. Improvements will accelerate after each additional session. Please note that everyone’s skin is unique and individual results may vary.
How many sessions will I need?
An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session, however for optimal results we recommend starting the process off with a course of 6 Lumecca facials, and to maintain those results we recommend maintenance courses of 3 Lumecca facials.
Multiple sessions provide maximum better results. The treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage), and energy settings.
How often should I get a Lumecca® Laser facial?
We recommend 1 session spaced 3 weeks apart or if preferred can be monthly but no sooner. Once you have achieved your personal skin goals like clearing acne, sun damage, or scarring, we do recommend a fortnightly to monthly facial to maintain your results. On average, The Look by Louise clients receives 1-3 facials per month.
Does it hurt?
No, not at all. You’ll feel a mild tingling sensation that is noticeable but not painful. During your Lumecca treatment there will be a bright flash of light and a slight prickly sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal and usually subside within an hour enabling you to return to normal activities almost immediately.
Are there any risks or side effects?
The most common side effects of laser facials can be erythema, redness and/or minor swelling. This will settle within 24 – 48 hours after treatment.
Is there any aftercare?
The following precautions should be adhered to after your treatment:
- Avoid sun exposure or the use of tanning beds for the duration of your course of treatments and up to 4 – 6 weeks after treatment.
- Do not use any self-tan products for at least 2 weeks after your treatment and at least 10 days after treatment.

How will I know I'm not allergic?
